Large English sideboard, Dresser, Solid oak buffet from the George I or George II period, first half of the 18th century - Rectangular elongated sideboard made of solid oak. Rustic English work from the first half of the 18th century, attributable to the George I or George II periods. The front opens with three stacked central drawers framed by two side cabinets, each containing a waist drawer above a door. Moulded intermediate rails. The base is rhythmically accented by a lower plinth that is cut and heavily scrolled with a bracket motif. The piece rests on a straight quadrangular base extending from the uprights. (6 feet) Heavy and massive construction with a strong section. Traditional joinery with visible dowels on the structure. The back and drawer bottoms are made of thick boards roughly sawn, with primitive nailed fittings attesting to the period of creation. The top surface may have been replaced over time with an oak element of consistent colour and texture. Very decorative period hardware. Pull handles and lock plates in cast and cut brass of the "batwing" model, equipped with drop handles. Doors mounted on visible external hinges in blackened wrought iron with a butterfly or double H motif. Very good structural condition. Stable carpentry, with no play. Superb dark and waxed patina from use. Signs, marks of time, old restorations from use, and normal wear inherent to age. A dark haloed stain is present on the right side of the top. A brass drop handle is missing from the upper left drawer. Locks in place, keys absent. Measurements: • Length: 203 cm. • Depth: 53 cm. • Height: 78 cm.
