Czech Art Nouveau buffet (renovated)

This Czech buffet dates from the early 20th century, probably from the years 1900-1910. Its clean lines and stylised floral decoration are characteristic of Central European Art Nouveau, marked by the influence of the Vienna Secession. It is matched with the separately available wardrobe. Materials: pine for the structure, pear wood door panels, burl marquetry, mother-of-pearl and exotic woods, brass lock entries and handles. Features: this Art Nouveau buffet opens with two large doors to reveal a spacious interior with a shelf. Each door is decorated with a marquetry cartouche, arranged in a mirror image, combining geometric shapes, stylised foliage, and mother-of-pearl inlays. This vocabulary, both geometric and botanical, is that of the Secession. The pronounced grain of the pine on the uprights gives the piece its warmth. Renovation: the buffet has been entirely hand-sanded to restore the natural colour of the wood. It was then washed and protected with wax. Condition: the buffet is solid, stable on its feet, and in good condition. It should be noted that the lock is no longer functional, which does not hinder its proper closure. Dimensions: L99.5 X D58.5 X H69.5. Interior: L96 X D53 X H56. Shelf height: 28-28.6. A unique Czech Art Nouveau buffet, representative of the decorative arts of Central Europe in the early 20th century and remarkable for its marquetry and mother-of-pearl decoration. With its compact dimensions, it easily fits into a bedroom, hallway, or small space.
