Chrome tubular 2-tiered side table, Art Deco / Bauhaus, Belgium, 1930s

This unique side table elegantly combines the use of chrome-plated tubular steel, typical for the Bauhaus movement, with the ornamental sweeping curves often found in Art Deco designs. The frame consists of four S-shaped legs which are connected to two vertical rings resulting in a continuously looping shape. The connecting screws are capped with balls which are a nice detail in line with the rounded theme. Both the wooden table top as well as the floating lower shelf are unadorned and coated in black lacquer, providing a distinctly minimalist contrast to the chromed frame. The table is in very good stable condition with only small signs in line with its age and use, including some very minor dents on the wooden parts and slight patina on the frame - to be expected after nearly 100 years of use. While there are no maker's marks or labels, both the wood and screws used suggest this table was made in the early 20th century. We acquired this table from a private collector in Antwerp, Belgium, who unfortunately had no further details on this wonderful piece. Dimensions: Height: 61 cm, Width: 70 cm, Depth: 45 cm.
