Maison Lecan presents this round table made of solid elm from the 1950s-60s, a design piece of rare uniqueness that fully embodies the aesthetic of French rustic modernism from the Reconstruction — a foundational movement where visionary creators like Charlotte Perriand and Pierre Chapo transformed raw solid wood into a complete architectural language. Its cruciform base made of solid elm, composed of robust rectangular-section legs connected in a cross, directly evokes Chapo's constructive power — particularly the spirit of his legendary S11 table — while distinguishing itself with a more understated elegance, lacking the characteristic visible wooden keys of the master. The rustic-chic aspect of the whole, the nobility of the chosen elm, and the generosity of the volumes also recall the furniture designed by Perriand for the mountain resorts of Les Arcs, where solid wood became both a building material and an object of desire. However, it is the tabletop that stands out as the true protagonist. The mountain elm, with its twisted grains, areas of burl with tight knots, and flames of rare intensity, unfolds a true natural tableau — deep caramels, warm ochres, and sinuous lines that make each surface a unique and irreducible work of art. The construction, robust and artisanal, prioritises the enhancement of the raw material over ornamentation — a testament to high-quality craftsmanship at a time when buildings were made to last and to be passed down. With a diameter of 121 cm, this table comfortably accommodates 6 to 8 guests in a convivial and egalitarian spirit.
