Pair of "Troïka" armchairs by Pierre Guariche, published by Airborne. 1950s France. Mid Century. Cream / ecru fabric and black lacquered metal base. Dimensions: H 86 X W 72 X D 70 cm. The armchairs have been reupholstered in a lovely cream herringbone fabric in 2026 by a skilled upholsterer, and the foam inside has been completely renewed. The armchairs have not been used since and are therefore impeccable and ready for use in a very beautiful mid-century living room. Unfortunately, the back of one armrest was slightly damaged during transport (pulled threads, see last photo). But apart from this flaw, the armchairs are flawless. Slight traces of oxidation on the original feet of the armchairs but almost imperceptible. Pierre Guariche (1926-1995) was a French designer who studied at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs, graduating in 1949. He interned with the famous designer Marcel Gascoin and began his career in 1950 by creating his Rotaflex lamp. He published his first models independently, showcasing them at various exhibitions (Salon des Arts Ménagers, Salon des Artistes Décorateurs) and was then noticed by publishers such as Galerie MAI, Pierre Disderot, and Steiner, who published his furniture. Later, he partnered with two other decorators, Michel Mortier and Joseph-André Motte, to found the Atelier de Recherche Plastique (A.R.P.) in 1954, aiming to create a series of furniture for the publisher Charles Minvielle. They sought to design practical furniture that would fit into small spaces. The A.R.P. Ended in 1957, and Guariche took over the furniture section of the Belgian company Meurop, gradually turning towards interior architecture.
