Legras molded glass vase with a long, flared neck and a cloudy yellow-orange background. No markings. Clichy Manufacture, Napoleon III period. 1 piece available. — Like many other master glassmakers, François Théodore Legras was born near Lorraine. At the crossroads of Art Nouveau and Art Deco, his career is a series of successes that, even today, make him one of the most respected references in France and abroad. Our man was born on December 27, 1839, in a small hamlet in the Vosges. Very quickly, he learned to master glass and developed a true passion that would guide him to the top of his profession. It was a true vocation! Initially a clerk in a glassworks in Saint-Denis in the 93 department, he quickly climbed the ranks to become director at the age of 23. In just a few years, the Legras factory would employ up to 1,400 workers and nearly 150 decorators, making this establishment the most important Art Nouveau glassworks in the entire Paris basin. Through his productions, Legras succeeded in combining utility and beauty, in making "beauty in the useful" as he himself confided. A vision of Art that denotes through the thousands of models produced by the artist and his establishment, works intended for all backgrounds, regardless of income levels.
