Animal-shaped milk jug shell in slipware.

A bit kitsch but so charming, these two ceramic milk jugs will leave no one indifferent when serving breakfast or tea, and they will certainly spark conversation! They depict shells in lovely shades of green, cream, and dark brown. Purchased on the Île de Ré in the 1960s, they were part of a coffee or tea set, of which unfortunately only these two jugs and a sugar bowl remain, which I will also offer for sale here in a few days. It is a beautiful piece of craftsmanship and surely took a long time to achieve such an impressive result. However, I have not been able to ascertain their place of manufacture; they are sometimes even claimed to be from Florida or Japan! I lean more towards a French production that may have been exported to various seaside tourist locations. These milk jugs are in very good condition, clean, with no chips or scratches, just a tiny line on the handle of one that might seem like a crack, but I rather think it is a mark of origin; in any case, it has no relief, the glaze is well joined, and nothing suggests it would weaken the piece. These jugs measure approximately 11 cm in length, 8 cm in width, and 7 cm in height.
