Double applique "Lily of the Valley," René Mathieu for Lunel, Royal Product.
This wall lamp from Maison Lunel with two light arms, designed by René Mathieu, features two finely ribbed frosted glass tulips set on a cherry red lacquered cone. Surrounding it, sprays of fine golden rods burst forth like ears of wheat. The white paint discreetly flakes in places. The stems, gathered in a brass tie at the bottom, fall into long points, creating the silhouette of a hand-tied bouquet. This "Muguet" model is a creation of Maison Raymond Lunel, a major figure in French lighting from the 1950s, and is listed in the publisher's catalog from that year. These floral wall lamps, emblematic of the decade, are true collectibles. It will enhance a living room wall or rhythmize an entrance and hallway with soft, muted light. On a dark wall, deep green, midnight blue, or woodwork, the shine of the brass and the red of the cones will stand out strikingly, while in a light interior, it will bring a very couture touch of cheerfulness. The lamp is presented in very good visual condition, with bright brass, glass without visible chips, and preserved red lacquer. Original electrification, in working condition. Dimensions: height 62 cm, width 26 cm, depth 16 cm. For a bit of history: In those optimistic post-war years, Lunel created lighting where botanical poetry meets the virtuoso work of brass, blown glass, and colored lacquer, in a mid-century French style of great elegance, blending Parisian whimsy with workshop refinement. These floral wall lamps, emblematic of the decade, are true collectibles.
