Rectangular planter in polychrome glazed earthenware decorated with flowers and a bird perched on a branch. Turquoise interior, feet in the shape of leafy claws. Work of Théodore Deck (1823-1891), a major figure in 19th-century French ceramics, famous for his deep blue glazes and naturalist decorations. This type of composition, combining technical virtuosity and decorative sense, is in line with the works presented by Deck at the Universal Exhibitions, notably that of Vienna in 1873 where he was awarded.
