This large biology wall chart titled ‘selaginella’ (a plant) was produced in france in 1959 and it was illustrated by paul sougy. At the top right of the chart there is the label s.39 and it is signed and dated at the bottom right – the date is partially hidden as shown in the pictures. At the back, it shows the original label with the cataloguing number (s.39) and the title of wall chart (selaginelle), as seen in the pictures. Paul sougy was a curator of natural history at the science museum of orléans, france, and a talented artist who was commissioned by the estate of the pioneering 18th-century french naturalist and anatomist dr louis thomas jérôme auzoux to create a series of illustrations based on auzoux’s work, to be used in textbooks, workbooks and large-scale educational charts for classroom walls. This iconic piece makes for a great decoration in a bedroom or living room, with the coloured lines contrasting on the black background. The wall chart is in good vintage condition, with minor creasing and wear consistent with age and use. The poster has fabric back, its original hanging ribbon and tie ribbon, as well as wooden bars at the top and bottom. When not hanging, it can easily rolled up and tied with its own ribbon for easy storage. Size: height 130cm X length 95cm.
