Vintage Kokeshi: Japanese wooden doll by the important artist Kouson Sato.

Kokeshi by the famous artist kouson sato, one of the few women to make creative kokeshi. Recognized as an accomplished artist, kouson worked in her studio in fukushima-ken, kuwaori-machi. Her dolls are easily recognizable by their wonderfully soft and smiling faces, the decoration on the body ranging from simple but elegant sumi-e brushstrokes to autumn leaves, camellia (winter rose) or chrysanthemum and bamboo. This beautiful doll wears a cherry blossom. In japan, cherry blossoms are a symbolic flower of spring, a period of renewal and the ephemeral nature of life.
