A jug

This is not a contemporary reissue. The stamp under the base (castle with three towers and ribbon "Gien France") as well as the handwritten mark of the painter allow us to date this piece to the period 1875 - 1935. The patina of the earthenware and the depth of the glazes confirm its ancient manufacture. This magnificent ewer (tall-necked jug) in earthenware from the famous Gien factory features the iconic "Peonies" design. This richly coloured motif, inspired by Eastern aesthetics, showcases stylised peony flowers hand-painted in cobalt blue, carmine red, and saffron yellow.
