Ducker's Barbizon and British landscapes illustrate the different facets of the Scottish and British countryside. [10] Many of the painter's documented works feature a soft, earthy color palette, highlighting the atmospheric, rusty spectrum of the Scottish Highlands. [11] Ducker's scenes are often idyllic, evoking a similar compositional structure. [11] The Rocky Mountains are often a focal point, with attention paid to other natural features such as gnarled, leafy trees, low shrubs, tall green grasses, and tranquil lakes and ponds. [11] Ducker sometimes depicts wild birds and grazing animals, such as sheep, as well as farmers tending them. Most of Ducker's documented brushwork is of moderate precision, with meticulously controlled detail applied with a fine brush or similar medium. In documented paintings, Ducker tends to sign the canvas in the lower left or right corners with the signature "JMDucker" or "JDucker, " sometimes underlining his surname.
