Jorgen Hoj sofa for Niels Vitsoe

Jorgen Hoj (1925-1994) for Niels Vitsoe, sofa, leather, aluminum, Denmark, circa 1960. Exclusive leather sofa designed by Jorgen Hoj who worked in the same workshop together with Poul Kjaerholm. The sofa which was manufactured by Niels Vitsoe is supported by a well-balanced aluminum frame with refined black details which are recognizable for the design of Hoj. The leather has a deep cognac color, shows a beautiful patina and forms a striking contrast with the steel base. Clearly influenced by Poul Kjaerholm, Hoj designed a sleek shaped sofa on aluminum legs. This modernist style was not very common in the 1960s. The sofa is rare and remains in original good condition. It features a superb patinated aniline leather in a warm cognac color with some traces of age and use (some scratches, discoloration and 3 small spots: see pictures) The foam has been renewed. The 3 seats can be separated (easy transport) and the sofa can be adjusted into a 2 seats sofa.
