Very beautiful set of 2 armchairs and 4 chairs. Lovely pieces for enthusiasts of antique furniture and classic decoration. The set consists of 4 chairs with openwork balloon-shaped backs, inspired by Jean-Baptiste DEMAY, made of carved wood and off-white or cream lacquer. The balloon-shaped backs feature openwork patterns, circular seats, and tapered fluted legs, a historical motif that appeared in 1783 to celebrate the first flight of the Montgolfier brothers. Cream lacquered wood, round seats in blue-grey velvet, and fluted legs characteristic of the Louis XVI style. This chair model was gifted to the Montgolfier brothers by Queen Marie Antoinette, and the coat of arms of M-A is still on the palmette - Traditional upholstery on helical springs and stuffed horsehair. The armchairs (x2): Oval medallion, bronze studding, sculpted armrests, fluted spindle legs. Elegance and classic refinement. Wood in generally good condition, with slight period cracks in the lacquer. Original velvet — to be reupholstered according to taste. A coherent and rare set on the market.
