Superb religious diptych in polychrome glazed ceramic, signed FRAB – TLEMCEN, made in Desvres, probably in the 1950s–1960s. Composed of two earthenware tiles measuring 15 × 15 cm, this set represents Christ in majesty, seated in a mandorla, surrounded by the symbols of the four evangelists. The composition, inspired by Romanesque and Byzantine styles, is distinguished by its vibrant colors, shiny glazes, and raised black outlines. A particularly decorative work, characteristic of the revival of sacred art in the mid-20th century. The front features the inscriptions FRAB and TLEMCEN. The back bears the marking FRAB TLEMCEN as well as the rooster stamp DESVRES – MADE IN FRANCE, associated with the ceramic tradition of Fourmaintraux. The work is attributed to Brother André Bouton (1914–1980), known as FRAB, a Benedictine artist who worked in North Africa. Excellent condition: no cracks, no chips, no glaze skips. The colors are remarkably preserved. The two tiles are kept in their original wooden frame, also in very good condition. The set has not been restored. Dimensions: * Each tile: 15 × 15 cm. * Framed set: 18.5 × 34 cm. Period: mid-20th century, around 1950–1960. Origin: Desvres, France. A unique piece for a vintage interior, a collection of French ceramics, or a decorative universe blending folk art, sacred art, and modernism.
