Cerenne Vallauris plate series

At the beginning of the twentieth century culinary pottery began to decline, competing with metal containers. The economic crisis of the 1930s definitively distanced pottery from its utilitarian function to initiate, 10 years later, a completely different evolution: artistic ceramics. It was in 1947, with the arrival of picasso and his ceramic production carried out at the madoura workshop, that the image of vallauris as a center of traditional pottery gave way definitively to that of a city where artists and craftsmen rub shoulders. In the early 1950s, architects and artists from the schools of fine arts converged on vallauris. They create in freedom, oppose all conformisms, apply the great principles of modernism where expressionist forms and mediterranean sensibility are mixed. Two general trends emerge, the interest in animal subjects and that for geometric decorations. This batch of plates is in good condition, with obvious signs of wear and tear related to time. The plates are 17.5 cm in diameter (dessert plate dimension), and will give a touch of color to your interior.
