Large dining table in solid cherry wood and ceramic signed by Philippe Rouart – circa 1960. French dining table made around the 1960s, combining solid cherry wood, wrought iron, and a remarkable ceramic decoration. The structure, with generous proportions, is entirely made of solid cherry wood. The four cylindrical legs are connected by an elegant wrought iron stretcher, with a twisted central bar that adds a lot of character to the whole. The tabletop is the centrepiece of this table: it is made up of a collection of black ceramic tiles decorated with a flight of birds in turquoise blue tones, standing out against a deep black background. The whole forms a true pictorial composition. The decoration is signed Ph. Rouart, corresponding to the French ceramist Philippe Rouart (1904-1993). Coming from the famous Rouart family, a dynasty of artists and collectors closely linked to the history of French art, Philippe Rouart dedicated himself to ceramics, as well as painting, engraving, and illustration. His work is distinguished by very personal figurative decorations, in which birds and natural motifs play an important role. (Persée) The table is offered in its original condition, without restoration. It therefore shows the marks, nuances, and signs of use corresponding to its age, which testify to its history and authenticity. The photographs allow for a precise appreciation of its condition.
