This attractive magazine rack in dark varnished wood, in a Scandinavian style, was designed by the Dutch designer Cees Braakman (1917-1995) for Pastoe in the 1960s. He later became the director of the company, succeeding his father after World War II. Cees Braakman was largely inspired by Herman Miller and the Eameses, whom he discovered during a trip to the United States. He returned from this trip with a taste for furniture with simple, clean lines, ideal for smaller spaces, apartments, and frequent moves. When folded, this magazine rack takes up very little space. It is in good overall condition, stable and sturdy, but shows some signs of its sixty years of use. Having previously acquired another one, I can say that this one has been repaired (but that's also how you recognize true, quality vintage—it's repairable, you don't throw it away): the two hinges have been replaced; they are now steel, whereas originally they were brass. There are small traces of glue, and you can make out two nail heads (barely visible). There are also a few small dents and abrasions. But all of this is actually quite subtle, much less noticeable than in the close-up photos; ) and doesn't detract from the pleasure of having a 1960s designer piece in your living room. When open, it measures approximately 45 cm wide, 55 cm high, and 27 cm deep.
