This very beautiful stoneware pitcher with alsace salt, turned, decorated with cobalt blue and a dark gray tending to green and varnished on the outside, will be as decorative as it is utilitarian! Its simple and modern lines make it a pretty, very modern piece and with its wide open neck, an easy-to-clean pitcher. It can be used to serve water at the table, garnished with a large armful of flowers (very stable and heavy) or even displayed as a decorative piece in its own right. In addition, it is very solid because the sandstone is thick and very stable with its wider base. It does not come from the fortuné schmitter workshop in betschdorf as I initially thought, but, as a contact in this workshop very kindly told me, it comes from the other workshop... The roger edmond schmitter workshop, you can't make it up; ) competing workshop of the same name in the same village but it has been closed for around twenty years, the person who answered me was even kind enough to give me the date! It therefore dates from the 1980s. It has two stamps underneath (“roger schmitter – grès d’alsace” and “genuine salt sandstone, betschdorf, alsace” as well as a hand-engraved hollow marking “handmade 1.5 liters" as well as its original silver paper label on the pitcher (illegible). It is in perfect condition, no cracks or chips, like new! It measures 21 cm in height, 15 cm in diameter at the level of the base, 12.5 cm in diameter at the opening and 20 cm in width from the handle to the spout. It weighs approximately 1.7 kg.
