Apothecary furniture

This magnificent period apothecary chest of drawers, has 45 compartments in total, consisting of 36 small drawers, 8 drawers wider and at the bottom is a central chest with two doors that would have housed other objects such as instruments associated with the apothecary. Each section was originally used to contain a specific item of various herbs and remedies used in chinese medicine and healing. Original entries are affixed to the front of each drawer and give details of the contents. They can still be read clockwise from the top to indicate what was stored in each section. This amazing solid wood cabinet is in very good condition. Its original dark color contrasts beautifully with the golden writings. Cabinets of this type are increasingly rare and are wonderful exceptional pieces for a modern home. It has slight traces of use, consistent with age and use.
