Hello, I propose this twilight countryside scene animated by several characters and entitled "return from the fields before the storm". This rural scene is an opposition between the return from a hard day's work of peasants with his haystack and his cart, then in parallel, on the left path, a lord of the manor walking back home. The painter's intention is probably to show this social opposition by dissociating these two categories separated by trees of a certain height and particularly dense, so that these two social categories do not see each other or cross paths (photos n°3 and n°4). This rural landscape which is centered on these two parallel paths (rare), also forms a very beautiful distant perspective. In a horizon loaded with threatening clouds, we can also see a setting sun and ending on the crest of low mountains for a very poetic rendering. This very old work has been restored since 1860 (approximate date). The canvas has recently been mounted by a professional restorer, it has been cleaned and an anti-UV satin varnish has been applied (Newton and Winsor). The old frame is not the original one, it is quite heavy, very thick and made of solid oak. This 19th century frame is perfectly suited to the subject of the canvas. It has also been completely cleaned, resized, tinted, and then a colorless varnish was applied for this occasion. The work is particularly representative of the French school and its romantic impressionists of the 19th century. His style is quite close to the greatest masters of this period such as Théodore Rousseau, Charles Daubigny, Narcisse Diaz de la Pena, Jules Dupré, Jean-François Millet etc. This authentic oil on canvas which is almost 2 centuries old is unfortunately not signed but does not change its historical and artistic value. Frame: 30 cm X 48.5 cm. Artwork: 22.5 cm X 41 cm. Very serious seller.
