Pastoe ‘Made to Measure’ Teak Cabinet by Cees Braakman, 1960s

A lovely compact cabinet designed by Cees Braakman for the Dutch manufacturer Pastoe. It belongs to the Made to Measure series, designed in the 1950s, although this particular example was most likely produced in the mid-1960s. What makes this cabinet so appealing is its combination of materials and colours. The warm teak exterior, light birch interior and black back panels work beautifully together, while the adjustable aluminium legs give the piece a lighter appearance. The layout is equally well thought out, with adjustable shelves above and a drop-down door below, providing plenty of storage without taking up too much space. Its modest dimensions make it an interesting piece for a smaller room, but it would feel just as much at home in a large, eclectic interior. We also have a slightly larger cabinet from the same Pastoe series available. Both work perfectly well on their own, but they also look very good together. Their matching materials and different layouts create a playful composition, with all the flexibility that Braakman’s Made to Measure series was designed to offer.
