The boucherouite comes from the arabic term "bu sherwit" which means "bouts of used clothing". The nomads of morocco began making this carpet in the 60s and 70s out of necessity rather than fashion. Like our other berber rugs and the weaned carpet, the boucherouite rugs are woven by women in morocco. The design and patterns of the carpets give a very pleasant result to look at. The women who make these rugs usually follow a free style when sewing, the pattern being usually asymmetrical. The woven patterns are important symbols for the tribes that make them. The boucherouite is simply a rag rug. Strips of old textiles, wool and un frayed fibres are woven together to create something totally new. All this serves only to highlight the remarkable nature of these carpets. One of the most amazing things about these rugs is their bright and vibrant colors that they send, especially when compared to the more traditional berber rugs. This brightness of color is due, in large part, to the presence of synthetic fibers of the carpet that bring out bright colors. An impossible result to obtain with artificial dyes.
