Magique — max papart, 1970. Signed and numbered 91/100. 65 X 48.5 cm  Max papart (december 19, france 1911 – august 29, 1994) was a french painter, engraver, illustrator and collegiate. His work is marked by a certain sweetness of life, a discreet irony and a great sense of plastic beauty. Max papart briefly attended the school of fine arts in marseille, preferring to train himself in painting. Settling in paris in 1936, he then worked as an artisan-printer. He exhibited at the salon des indépendants and made his first engravings. His first solo exhibition took place at the galerie bureau in paris in 1938. Max papart participated in the liberation of marseille. He then exhibited at the sébire gallery in marseille in 1946. He illustrated bibliophilic works by jacques prévert by georges ribemont-dassaignes. It evolves from a post-cubist language to an expression borrowing from abstraction certain plastic reasonings. Lithographer, engraver and painter, he often uses mixed media and collage. In 1970, he completed his technique of etching with the contribution of carborundum according to the technique invented in 1968 by his friend henri goetz. He taught printing at the university of paris VII in vincennes from 1969 to 1973. Towards the end of his life, he designed jewelry after his own paintings, jewelry limited to eight precious stones or semi-precious. Each is made by jean jacques de la verrière.
