A lovely, original-looking walnut commode with a serpentine front. This medium-height piece has good dimensions and adds a pleasing sense of volume. This commode requires some basic care as it is a "barn find" from the mountainous region of Isère. An LR stamp on the front of a drawer could correspond to a Lyon cabinetmaker, Louis Royer. Consequently, we can date it to the 18th century. The flaws to address are: swaging holes on the lower side. A detached band on the top (but this can be left as is for its charm). We will repair the swaging holes; they will simply need to be filled. The handles are not original. The drawer interiors also need attention. At this stage, it is perfectly stable despite these minor flaws. This commode truly deserves a second life in a large room with a sense of space.
