This flower stand is a prime example of the avant-garde modernist aesthetic of the 1930's...in the 1920's and 1930's there were many variations of flower stands designed by different architects and produced by various manufacturers. It was a very popular piece of furniture and every modern household wanted one. This particular piece is believed to be produced by the renowned up brno in former czechoslovakia. The stand consists of four platforms each in different heights that are made to look like they are floating by the elegant composition in the middle that effortlessly connects them. The platforms are made of solid oaks and their support of fir wood. Overall this piece has got elegant composition of simple geometric forms and looks more like an avant-garde sculpture or three dimensional version of an abstract painting rather than furniture… The whole piece has been recently fully refurbished by our highly experienced restorer and it is in a perfect vintage condition. The restorer was able to trace the original colour and then repaint the whole piece in the same red shade in nitro lacquer paint, exactly how it was used on the modernist furniture in the 1930’s.
