This three-seater leather sofa was designed by Arne Norell in the 1960s. A timeless and enduring design, it is just as sought-after today as it was over 60 years ago. The sofa is upholstered in high-quality natural leather in a soft, rich burgundy tone. Its slender profile with gently angled sides gives it a distinctive modernist character. The design features loose seat cushions, back cushions, and side cushions, all contributing to exceptional comfort. The sofa stands on solid oak legs. This Cromwell sofa is a fine example of Swedish modernist design, reflecting a long-standing tradition of craftsmanship, quality, and understated elegance. Arne Norell was a highly regarded Swedish furniture designer, posthumously awarded Showpiece of the Year by the British Furniture Manufacturers in London in 1973 for his Ari armchair. Throughout his career, he explored a wide range of materials and construction techniques, working confidently with wood, leather, fabric, and metal. In 1958, he founded his own company, Möbel AB Arne Norell, producing his designs independently and remaining committed to his creative vision. Today, original Arne Norell pieces are increasingly rare and highly collectible, often achieving several thousand dollars at international auctions. The sofa is very comfortable, offering excellent back support, and is in excellent vintage condition. The leather has recently been professionally cleaned and conditioned.
