Large rectangular silver-plated metal tray with handles from Maison Wiskemann. Gadroon decorations on the edge and shells at the 4 corners. The handles feature revolute acanthus leaves. Hallmark Wiskemann 60 (i.e. 60 grams of silver to cover the tray) Serial number: 240 288. The Wiskemann company (a Belgian equivalent of Christofle in France) is a Brussels silverware and goldsmith manufacturer, founded in 1872 by Otto-Léonard Wiskemann. Son of a family of German goldsmiths since the 17th century, he settled in Belgium after training in Germany, Switzerland and Paris. The company will distinguish itself with the use of the brand new technique of electrolysis silver plating, possible with the recent invention of direct current production by Gramme.
