Vintage ceramic pie dish on a stand from Gien – hummingbird design.

Pie dish on pedestal / vintage compote in fine Gien earthenware, from the charming "Hummingbirds" model. The printed decoration in shades of pink-red depicts a hummingbird in flight approaching a bouquet of passionflowers with delicate tendrils, in the Japonisme style of the late 19th century. The wing is bordered by an elegant bamboo-style ribbon punctuated with foliage, a motif repeated on the pedestal. The reverse bears the red stamp "Faïencerie de Gien – Gold Medals – Diplomas of Honour – Hummingbirds". Founded in 1821 by the Englishman Thomas Hall on the banks of the Loire, the Faïencerie de Gien established itself throughout the 19th century as one of the largest French manufacturers of fine earthenware, winning numerous awards at world exhibitions — hence the mentions of "gold medals" and "diplomas of honour" on its stamp. Its tableware with refined printed decorations adorned the bourgeois tables of the Belle Époque, and the factory, still in operation, remains a reference for French table arts. This serving dish will add a romantic touch to a table, beautifully present pies or pastries, or simply be displayed on a sideboard or wall alongside other antique earthenware.
