A Swedish Art Deco duo with a strong character: a milk jug and a covered sugar bowl from the "Karneval" series, produced by the Gefle factory (Gävle) after its acquisition by Upsala-Ekeby in the mid-1930s. The design features a bright matte orange body, white bands edged in black, and glossy black handles with an almost sculptural shape. Fine golden lines accentuate the necks, and the lid of the sugar bowl is topped with a fully gilded knob. The shapes are oval and generous, typical of Swedish functional modernism from the interwar period, straddling Art Deco and functionalism. These are service pieces that also work very well as decorative objects, either alone or as a duo. They add a bold splash of colour to a sideboard, shelf, or breakfast table. Marks. Stamp under each piece: "Upsala-Ekeby – Gefle – Made in Sweden", decor name "Karneval".
