Summary. Set of six Neoclassical Biedermeier shovel-back dining chairs, South Germany, circa 1840–1850. Shovel-shaped backrests, each with a central pierced splat and an ebonized upper edge. Design. Curved shovel-style backs that flare at the top and narrow toward the seat. Tapered square legs: straight at the front and gently curved at the rear. Materials. Solid walnut frames with walnut-root veneer and walnut inlays on the front of the back. Seats upholstered in black bouclé fabric. Dimensions. Per chair: H 90 cm × W 46 cm × D 53 cm; Seat height 52 cm. Provenance. South Germany, production around 1840–1850; period classified as Before 1890, style Biedermeier. Set. Matching set of six chairs sold together.
