Roberto Foschia - Set of three “Egg” chairs - Midj - c. 1990 - Italy -

We are offering for sale this set of three “egg” chair-stools, designed by roberto foschia for the prestigious italian manufacturer midj. Combining sculptural silhouette and ergonomic comfort, these pieces embody the postmodern design of the 1990s, and are distinguished by a resolutely contemporary ovoid shape, evocative of the “space-age” style: a molded shell in polypropylene tinted an ivory white rests on a spidery base in welded steel tube, treated with gunmetal gray epoxy lacquer. The four slightly curved branches meet under the seat and flare out towards the ground, giving the whole a great stability while recalling the biomorphic elegance of italian design of the end of the 20th century. A curved footrest, welded on two axes, completes the ergonomics and underlines the “contract” character of this model, originally designed for bars and reception areas. Behind this fluid line, we find the signature of roberto foschia, an italian designer from friuli, active since the 1980s in the field of contract and residential furniture. A long-time collaborator of midj, foschia has been able to combine industrial requirements with formal research in his creations, as evidenced by this “egg” model, sometimes called “cico” or “coquille” in the brand’s old catalogs. -- dimensions (cm): 62.5 (h) X 38 (w) X 35 (d) X 48 (h seat). Origin & period: italy, c. 1990. Beautiful original condition: uniform wear and light patina, consistent with the age of the pieces. Note that a fourth chair of the same model is also in our possession. Due to more pronounced yellowing of the hull, however, it is not included in this sale, but can be offered free of charge, for decoration or for restoration if the buyer wishes.
