Chinese vase in bronze and cloisonne enamels

Baluster vase in bronze and cloisonné enamels decorated with divine characters '(guanyin) on a white elephant by mi les sages dans la nature on a blue and green background. A frieze of palmettes surrounds the pass. The collar is enhanced by two handles in the shape of elephant heads. Work using the technique of champlevés enamels (the name comes from the French for "raised field", "field" meaning background, although the technique in practice lowers the area to be enamelled while raising other parts). This complex technique of enamel work already existed in China from antiquity until the sixteenth century. Height: 38 cm. Diameter: 17 cm. This vase probably dates from the end of the MEIJI period in JAPAN (1912-1920) and was intended for export. * The vase had been mounted as a lamp so the base is pierced. * A detachment of one of the elephant catches is to be reported (to be reglued).
