An elegant trio of glazed earthenware from the Poët-Laval pottery (Coursange, Drôme): two model 721 vases and a model 729 planter/centerpiece, also known as a boat. Slip-glazed wisteria decoration: flower clusters and foliage in relief, hand-painted in vibrant shades of deep blue and leaf green, highlighted with brown scrollwork and a black border. The glossy glaze highlights the freshness of the colors. The Poët-Laval pottery, in the heart of the Drôme region, flourished in the mid-20th century and was home to Jacques Pouchain, a leading figure in French ceramics. Slip-glazed decoration is a technique inherited from the late 19th century, revived at Poët-Laval in the 1940s and 1950s to add volume and pictorial brilliance to floral designs. Period: 1940s–1960s. Numbers 721 and 729 incised under the base. Beautiful vintage condition: small, discreet chips on each piece (typical of this antique earthenware), without detracting from the shine or beauty of the set (see Photos). Dimensions: for the two vases, height 22 cm, diameter 11 cm at the widest point, diameter 7 cm at the base and opening. For the planter: height 12.5 cm, length 23.5 cm, width 12 cm. Historically, these sets of two vases framing a central element formed a mantelpiece or sideboard decoration. Today, a rare trio, ideal for a Provençal bohemian / Mediterranean cottage ambiance.
