Satyr Head Knocker in Gilt Bronze

This beautifully executed gilt bronze knocker is relatively small but very large in character. It represents a beautiful satyr head holding a striking ring between its teeth. Grape leaves and grapes adorn the top and sides of the head; satyrs were companions of the greek god of wine dionysus. This appears to be a fairly rare model. Dating is difficult, but it appears to be of some age and the execution of this implies to me that it will probably be late 19th century. Condition: good. No damage. Aged patina. The door knocker has one knock. There is no mechanism present to secure it. Dimensions: 14 cm high with knocker, 7 cm wide, 2.8 cm deep, 180 g.
