Pair of hungarian art deco armchairs – model 445| c. 1930s. This striking pair of armchairs is an authentic example of hungarian art deco design from the 1930s. The model is documented in the original catalog of the renowned “szék- és faárugyár” factory and a photograph of the same design is preserved in the collection of the museum of applied arts, budapest. The chairs feature solid walnut frames with elegant curved armrests and have been fully and professionally restored. The restoration was carried out with great respect for the original craftsmanship: The seat supports were rebuilt with traditional hand-tied springs and jute webbing. Natural afrik fiber filling was used for authentic comfort and structure. The backrests are hand-upholstered with vintage-style nailhead trim. Luxurious, italian-made striped upholstery fabric (reai tessuti) was carefully chosen to reflect the era’s design sensibility. The striped pattern is placed horizontally — a refined historical detail true to the 1930s aesthetic. The walnut wood frames were carefully cleaned, restored, and oiled to highlight the grain and natural warmth of the timber. These armchairs are not only beautifully crafted seating pieces but also important historical design objects. They would make a refined and distinctive addition to any interior — from classic homes to contemporary spaces in need of character and soul.
