It resembles nothing ever seen before. A taut, unbroken curve. Disorienting proportions. A pure, suspended line that seems to defy gravity. The leather spreads out, the base disappears, and the whole defies categorization. It could be from yesterday, or tomorrow. It might also never reappear. It resists the times, whatever they may be. It is neither a trend nor a tribute. It simply is. And that is enough. This armchair bears a name it doesn't recognize. Too sculptural to be reduced to mere function. Too singular, too. No clearly defined armrests, backrest, or seat: just a volume, a hollow, an extension—like a rock hewn to human scale. The eye perceives mass, but the body discovers something else. The angle. The depth. The pressure. The bone-white leather hugs the back seamlessly, supporting the pelvis without confining it. Everything is precise. Millimeter-perfect. A geometry of the essential. We preferred to go directly to the source rather than simply repeat what's being said. ROM replied: Chili is indeed a house model, designed by Paul Falkenberg—chief designer of the Eupen workshop, still at work today—and Jean-Marc Jacquemin, and released in the mid-1980s. A clear lineage. A name, an edition, a design duo. The story is there, tangible: a piece born in Belgium, a land of crafts and dialects, where form speaks several languages, even inventing its own syntax. ROM has cultivated this syntax since 1961: cut precisely, prioritize the essential, let the form dictate. The rest becomes decoration—in this case, unnecessary. Our version embraces the challenge of a less common color. A meticulous color, demanding care and consistency, here maintained with rare integrity. Add to this highly sought-after white and first-rate durability: you obtain true rarity, the kind that reduces the visible supply to the absolute minimum. - Origin & Period: Paul Falkenberg X Rom AG - Belgium, c. 1988/92. Condition: VF+ (8.7/10).
