Large neoclassical bust, sculpture of a gaul, called 'warrior gaulois', 'head of a gaul', a statue made of plaster, finished with a dark bronze patina, after françois rude (1784-1855), not signed, second half of the 20th century. In this dramatic sculpture, the wide eyes and animated expression suggest the patriotic fervor of an ancient warrior heading into battle. This head is based on the central figure from françois rude's greatest work, “the departure of the volunteers of 1792”, created for the facade of the arc de triomphe in paris. Rude's dynamic approach to sculpting form is especially evident in the warrior's swirling, sinuous hair. In very good vintage condition, with some minor spots on the bronze patina, no cracks or fractures, check the photos for more details! Dimensions: lwh 30x31x49cm. Weight: 13.1kg.
