Large neoclassical bust, sculpture of a gaul, called 'warrior gaulois', 'head of a gaul', a statue made of plaster, finished with a dark bronze patina, after françois rude (1784-1855), unsigned, second half 20th century century. In this dramatic sculpture, the wide-open eyes and animated expression suggest the patriotic fervor of an ancient warrior going into battle. This head is based on the central figure of françois rude's greatest work, “the departure of the volunteers of 1792”, made for the façade of the arc de triomphe in paris. Rude's dynamic approach to modeling form is particularly evident in the warrior's swirling, tortuous hair. In very good vintage condition, with some minor spots on the bronze patina, no cracks or breaks, check the photos for more details! Dimensions: lh 30x31x49cm. Weight: 13.1kg.
