DESCRIPTION: A very unique antique Art Deco copper mirror. The mirror has a brutalist design. This unique design is by the German Conrad Fehn. This design was created around 1925 when Conrad Fehn lived and worked from Haarlem. The mirror's design is shaped by its unique form, texture, and connections. The copper was hand-hammered into its current form, and you can still clearly see the hammer marks. By hammering harder from the back, extra texture was added. In short, a unique item for lovers of this timeless style. ABOUT CONRAD FEHN: Conrad Fehn was born on May 20, 1891, in Nuremberg and moved to Haarlem in 1914. Nothing is known about his education or reasons for settling in the Netherlands, but it seems certain that he was trained in silversmithing in Germany. Around 1917, a metal and art studio was reported on Schoterweg in Haarlem. In 1921, he became technical director of the newly opened art bronze and metal foundry De Kroon in Haarlem. From 1929, Fehn had his own bronze and decorative foundry at Barteljorisstraat 33 in Haarlem, where his own and submitted designs were executed, often in the Amsterdam School style. In the 1930s, he was associated with Nazism. A membership card shows that he became a member of the NSDAP on May 1, 1934. That he was an active supporter of Nazism is also evident from advertisements from the war. In 1944, the ground in Haarlem may have become too hot for the artist. On September 7, 1944, he left his residence at Barteljorisstraat 33 in Haarlem and settled in Germany near his birthplace Nuremberg.
