Mid-Century Round Rosewood Extending Dining Table by Severin Hansen for Haslev Møbelsnedkeri, Denmark, 1960s

This round extending dining table was designed by Severin Hansen for the Danish furniture manufacturer Haslev Møbelsnedkeri during the 1960s. The piece is an excellent example of elegant Danish Mid-Century Modern design, combining a minimalist form with high-quality craftsmanship. Particular attention is drawn to the carefully selected rosewood veneer with its striking, symmetrically arranged grain, which is especially impressive across the large surface of the tabletop. A distinctive design detail is the subtle edging running along the lower edge of the tabletop and the legs, emphasizing the table’s slender proportions. The table features two extension leaves, allowing the dining surface to be increased gradually. In its standard round configuration, the table measures 118 cm in length, extending to 168 cm with one leaf and to a maximum of 218 cm with both leaves inserted. The table has undergone comprehensive woodworking restoration. The wooden elements were stripped of the old coating, stained in a rosewood colour, and finished with a durable high-quality semi-matt lacquer, which protects the surface while enhancing the rich colour and striking natural grain of the rosewood.
