Impressionist painting, Robert Crommelynck " Landscape of Animated Fagne ", ca 1947

Impressionist painting by robert crommelynck around 1947 depicting a figure in fields of flowers in fagne. Oil on canvas (marouflage preparation on cardboard), very beautiful period stucco frame in beautiful condition, note some cracks (almost invisible, see photo). Dimensions with frame: 50 X 60cm. A painting entitled "fir trees in fagne" from the same period and dated 1947 is in the royal museums of fine arts of belgium (see last image). Biography: Trained by évariste carpentier and adrien de witte at the academy of fine arts in liège (1908-1915), crommelynck exhibited from 1917 in verviers, brussels and liège. During the 1920s, he traveled to the rhine valley, brittany, normandy, and discovered in 1928 the fagne and the ardennes, where he made many stays in the following years. From 1930, he rented a studio in paris and then discovered spain, germany, austria, switzerland (1935), italy (1936). In 1944, crommelynck was appointed professor at the academy of fine arts in liège, for the higher course of decorative painting, which he taught until 1960. Robert crommelynck died in 1968 and was buried in the robermont cemetery in liège. At the beginning of the twentieth century, robert crommelynck preferred classical expressionism to the impressionism of the time. He is attracted by spain whose landscapes and rusticity he appreciates and he has a great admiration for velázquez who inspires his painting. He was also inspired by goya and the german painters lovis corinth and wilhelm leibl. Robert crommelynck is a landscape painter but also a portraitist.
