Gainsborough English style swivel office chair, Edwardian period (early 20th century, circa 1900-1920), combining a Georgian-style chair frame with an industrial office mechanism. The backrest features a typical "camel back" profile from the Chippendale/Georgian repertoire, upholstered in a burgundy boucle fabric with black highlights, accented with a green-grey piping. The dark wood armrests (walnut or mahogany) are carved in scrolls, supporting padded arm caps. The solid wood cross base is mounted on period casters. The central cast iron mechanism allows for 360° rotation, height adjustment via a screw, and backrest tilt via a lever — a characteristic mechanism of late Victorian/Edwardian office chairs. Wear consistent with age: slightly worn fabric, eroded wood on the armrest ends. Adjustment mechanisms (height, tilt) are functional according to the seller.
