Black and gold Italian ceramic head vase signed Behreno

Magnificent anthropomorphic vase in black and gold ceramic depicting a Nubian head with a turban. This exceptional piece, both for its unusual size and the quality of its manufacture, was produced in the 50s/60s by the prestigious Italian manufacturer Behreno in Florence and illustrates a very fashionable theme at the time. The figure of the Nubian is hand-painted in a deep matte black while the base and the turban are covered with a gold-gilded enamel. The many details and reliefs of the face (eyes, eyebrows, hair, folds on the forehead, etc.) testify to the finesse of the manufacture and give this piece a surprising realism.
