Antique carved and gilded wooden mirror, Louis XVI style – 54 x 92 cm

Elegant antique mirror in carved and gilded wood, inspired by Louis XVI, adorned with an openwork pediment decorated with a laurel crown, a partition, and crossed mandolins, framed by finely crafted foliage. The whole rests on a rectangular structure with a beaded frieze and stylised side supports, ending in protruding elements reminiscent of architectural feet. Dimensions: 56 cm wide X 92 cm high. The mirror features its original mercury backing with a beautiful patina, marked by pitting and black alterations spread across the surface, characteristic of its age and giving it authentic charm. The gilding, likely applied with gold leaf on a preparatory layer, shows regular wear, rubbing, small losses, and visible chips, particularly at the corners and protruding parts. There is a joint crack in one corner of the frame as well as wear at the lower parts. The back is made of old wood, assembled with period nails. French work from the late 18th century or early 19th century, in the neoclassical style. A decorative piece of character, ideal in a classic interior or as a contrast in a contemporary decor.
