A true collector's item, coloured in the very attractive "Tiffany green", this is probably the only Paul Haustein WMF Ikora model 251/169a table lamp on the market today – if not the only one! Patinated by fire using an innovative chemical process, this "Ikora" table lamp is an exceptional example of technological innovation serving design in 1920s Germany. The distinctive green of this lamp was achieved by treating brass with a mixture of iron and copper vitriol, also known as a japanning bath. Originally designed around 1928 by Professor Paul Haustein as a decorative vase, WMF also used this design for this table lamp with the same model numbers 251/169 "a" and "b" – the "a" designating the green version, and the "b" the red version. We found only one other matching Ikora during our research, a 251/169b (red) vase in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The lamp is wired for two E27 bulbs and the central column can be easily extended by 8 cm by loosening and tightening a small handle. This allows for different lighting effects as well as the installation of larger lampshades. Almost a century old, this table lamp is in generally good vintage condition with some signs of its age and use. The WMF logo is present under the base. A unique opportunity to acquire an iconic design for collectors and design enthusiasts! Dimensions: Body height: 49 cm - 57 cm. Base diameter: 20 cm. Lampshade not included.
