Pair of teak planter chairs and canning. Very good condition. Total height 90cm. Seat height 25cm. Width 60cm. —- The planter's chair, also called kursi malas in indonesia or creole chair in the french west indies, is a colonial-style resting chair. It dates from the nineteenth century but was very fashionable until the years 1930-1940, date of the end of colonization. With its low seat and reclined backrest trimmed with canning or upholstered leather, it was the ideal seat to relax after a day's work. The first planter's chairs came from the british colonies in india and indonesia. Thus, we often find influences of the english regency and victorian style such as, for example, the turned front feet, the back feet in small curve, the curved backrest, etc.
