Oval plate in French faience (Sarreguemines and Creil & Montereau) with a small blue mark corresponding to the worker or decorator) "Willow Pattern" motifs in cobalt blue from the late 19th century. The Willow Pattern tells a romantic Chinese legend where a young woman, promised to a wealthy suitor, flees with her true love, a simple servant. The two lovers are caught and killed, but the moved gods transform them into two doves flying away for eternity. This is why the two birds are seen at the centre of the design.
