Ceramic tile by Roland Zobel. France, 1970. Roland Zobel (1945–2004), son of Martinican writer Joseph Zobel, was a French ceramist trained at the Beaux-Arts de Bourges and the International School of Ceramics in Faenza. Based in Générargues, near Anduze, he founded the “Les Cyclades” workshop, where he created ceramic pieces with solar and mythological motifs. His work is distinguished by mirrors, masks, and everyday objects with colorful glazes, inspired by the Mediterranean and the fables of La Fontaine. He contributed to the revival of the Anduze vase and the promotion of local crafts. His creations, signed “Les Cyclades Anduze, ” are today sought after for their joyful and poetic style.
